JOB DESCRIPTION- Infection Control Nurse

General Summary

Under the supervision of the Infection Control Committee, this position is responsible for the organization and implementation of surveillance, reporting exposure involving emergency medical services, environmental surveillance, CQI monitoring, and staff development. In addition, the Infection Control Nurse over sees activities of the Infection Control Clinician, prepares statistics for the infection control meetings, has an ongoing relationship with the Board of Health, and attends meetings as assigned.

Brief Overview of Essential Functions:

  • Research and Reporting
  • Reporting to Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) Cases
  • Reviewing Exposure Cases Involving Emergency Medical Services
  • Conducting Environmental Surveillance
  • Evaluating QA/QI Monitoring Activities
  • Participating in Staff Development Consultation
  • Attendance and Participation in assigned meetings
  • Engaging in preparation for Infection Control Meeting


Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Illinois
  • Three or more years of experience in Nursing preferred
  • Strong verbal communication skills to present written material to all levels of hospital staff
  • Strong working knowledge of the principals of epidemiology and infectious disease, sterilization sanitation, disinfection practice and principles of adult education and /or patient care practice.
